Our latest Sovereign Canada series takes us to the bars of some extremely talented individuals who are refashioning the classic cocktails of Summer. This is not your sorority house sugar bomb sangria nor your antifreeze hangover induced blue hawaiians (although there may still be blue drinks). We’ve put these bartenders to the task and they have most certainly delivered! Happy sipping!
First up to bat is Vancouver’s own: Max Borrowman
Concocting a twist on his favorite summer tipple, Max has created “The Dead Mule,” a deliciously potent take on the Margarita. Paying homage to the many Mezcaleros that still use mules as a means of transporting agave; this one was clearly drinking on the job.
The Dead Mule
20 ml The 86 Co Tequila Cabeza
20 ml Mezcal Koch Mexicano
15 ml Aperol
10 ml Simple Syrup
15 ml Lime juice
15 ml Grapefruit juice
1 slice of Ginger
Muddle ginger in a mixing tin, combine all ingredients, shake over ice. Rim an old fashioned glass with salt and fine strain cocktail over rocks. Garnish with a grapefruit twist and candied ginger
Cheers!
