With Katie Ingram
Hailing from Toronto, Ontario, Katie moved to Vancouver after completing her degree in Theatre. She has been working in the service industry since the ripe young age of 17. Her love of spirits and cocktail bartending quickly grew into a passion when she began working at UVA Wine + Cocktail Bar. Katie is currently the Head Bartender at L’Abattoir and a Bittered Sling West Coast Brand Ambassador (#BitterBabe). Being a force to be reckoned with on the cocktail competition side, her most recent victories and skills have taken her to Kentucky, New Orleans, Oaxaca, Dublin and Cognac to name a few. Katie has a passion to learn, create and perform.
What is your favorite spirit to work with?
Campari. I want to put it in EVERYTHING.
If you could make a cocktail for anyone living or dead, who would it be? And what would you make them?
Stephen Sondheim. Being obsessed with Musical Theatre and attending a performing arts high school in Toronto, I love everything that Stephen Sondheim has ever created- he is a lyrical and musical genius. His music is difficult to learn because the story that he tells is so incredibly unique- the harmony is normally different from the melody, and the vocal parts compliment each other in contrasting ways. I would want to create cocktails for him and the songs that he has written.
What is your end goal, career-wise? Brand Ambassador? Restaurant owner?
Definitely Brand Ambassador
Your favorite cocktail festival? And why? (…Or otherwise, What happens at Tales stays at Tales?)
*Speed Rack! It is always so much fun! Lynette and Ivy do a great job of bringing bartenders together from across Canada and the US to compete together all for the love of boobs. It will be coming to Canada again this year and I have already started practising!
Favorite town to enjoy a cocktail in?
Chicago
Any specific route that you will be taking L’Abattoir’s cocktail program in in the New Year?
This year, we will be working as a team to focus on the cocktail menu. We will be creating drinks that are inspired by France and the West Coast, much like the style of cooking in the restaurant.
Your preferred Beer & a Shot?
Good Company Lager & Jameson
*Speed Rack is the brain child of Ivy Mix and Lynnette Marrero, being a cocktail competition for the ladies -one that celebrates and promotes women in the spirit industry while raising funds for local and national charities #BackTheRack
