Spirited Sessions: Contract Distilling with The Jo(h)n’s of Smooth Ambler Spirits
May 11, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
You’re ALL invited!
The next Spirited Sessions Virtual Edition goes down on Monday, May 11th, 2pm EST and this time we’re taking you to West Virginia to meet the faces behind Smooth Ambler Spirits, John Little and John Foster. We’ll also have Jon Gray (yes another Jo(h)n) of Drink Tank and the Bartenders Benevolent Fund to moderate this session and help us walk through the complicated world of contract distilling.
Today’s whiskey market is often full of brand stories, often with the mention of special recipes passed down from generation to generation. As romantic as these stories sound, at times they are indeed just that – stories. One of the most charming parts of Smooth Ambler is how they conduct themselves in a straightforward manner with full transparency about their entire operation. Their honest approach, combined with their phenomenal sourcing and distilling skills, have truly become their own ‘brand story’. It also helps that their whiskies are really good J
Please join us for a Zoom chat to learn how commercial sourcing, blending, and curating works in the crazy world of American whiskey. The Johns will be dispelling many myths, cutting through the marketing speak, and also destigmatizing contract distilling. And if you haven’t had the fortune of interacting with the Johns before, we assure you that you’ll soon come to love their hospitable vibes as well as their brilliant sense of humor.
A reminder that we are still continuing our #tipsforfam initiative. For every out-of-work Canadian bar professional that joins, Sovereign Canada will be donating $5 to the Bartenders Benevolent Fund.
We’ll “see you all there!
